This is the difficult side of Cancer...We know they are hard to look at but Gavin will never know were he is going until he know where he has came from.

Gavin is diagnosed with neuroblastoma. He is in his hospital bed after his biopsy on February 24, 2005.Gavin is having fluids forced because the chemotherapy is toxic to his kidney's. His organs are being compromised as the tumor grows and pushes organs out of the way. His heart must work hard to supply blood to his organs. His lungs are unable to fully expand. Gavin is on a morphine drip. |
Gavin's stomach swelled to 27 inches around. Gavin was unable to be held because of his size and all the medical equipment he was attached to. |

The swelling has begun to go away. Gavin now has blisters in his mouth and on his bottom as a result of the chemotherapy. He has lost his hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. (March 18, 2005)

Gavin has chicken pox/ shingles. Gavin's Oncologist are deeply concerned when they discover that he has chicken pox. Gavin will now need to be isolated from all other patients in the hospital. He has an Infectious Disease Team who will monitor his pox. Everytime Gavin gets Chemotherapy he will battle shingles. They are extremely painfull and he will be given methedone to help with the pain

Gavin was operated on in August 2005 to remove his tumor. The operation took four hours and Gavin did wonderfully. The tumor was successfully removed.

This is Gavin's last and strongest round of chemotherapy. His mouth is bleeding and full of sores. His bottom is full of sores and his insides have sores. His skin is falling off and he is swollen around his face and neck. He is beginning to lose weight, he can not be feed by his central lines because of his liver function. The Doctor's are positive and say he is doing fine... |
